Nikki's Promise

If elected, I will place my satellite office in a community where people rely heavily upon public transportation (for example either the Hickory Hill community, Orange Mound, or a location in South Memphis). I am promising this for three reasons:

1 – Access.  I believe that an elected official and their staff should be accessible to ALL of its voters, and that the needs and concerns of ALL constituents should be heard in Washington, D.C.

2 – Economic Development.  If elected, I want to perform economic development in these areas.  I have met with business leaders and expressed my dedication to helping to improve opportunity in these areas.  I think that if in fact we are ONE Memphis, we should focus our efforts on improving areas that need the most help. I am hoping that my presence in the community will invite and encourage the presence of other business leaders to that community.

3 – Exposure.  I believe that children emulate what they see everyday.  Our children need to see me and other leaders of our community on their way to and from school.   They need to know that we support them and that we have become successful not through professional sports, through rap music, nor through illegal activity.  (This is not an assault on professional athletes or musical artists.  However, children must realize that there is little chance of them becoming successful in these professions).  But, we have to help them realize that we have become successful teachers, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, etc… because of the time and dedication that we gave to our education, because we listened to our teachers and we stayed out of trouble.

Please join me in fulfilling this promise!!

Protect your right to vote

wood_ballot_box_100x100.jpgThis year's exciting elections have prompted many first-time voter registrations.  That's great news and here's a guide to the identification requirements for first-time voters who registered by mail.

One in 100 Americans

barbedwire_50x50.jpgThat's roughly the number of Americans behind bars, according to a new study.  For African-American men between the ages 20 and 34, that figure is one in nine.  We can do better, and we need leadership that will make this a priority.
