bankreposign.jpgSince President Bush assumed office in 2001 the unemployment rate has increased, 9 million more people are without health insurance, the price of gas has more than doubled and consumer credit debt has increased to $12.8 trillion. In addition, Tennessee will be heavily hit with an estimated 441,703 neighboring homes experiencing devaluation and a $547 million decrease in the state’s overall housing values and tax base due to the foreclosure effect.

As your Congresswomen I will fight to repeal the Bush tax cuts to the top one percent of income earners and offer tax relief instead to middle-class families. I will fight to prevent future subprime crisis and strengthen protections against risky loans and prevent these bad loans from being made in the first place.  I will fight for fair treatment for homeowners in bankruptcy to prevent up to 600,000 Americans from losing their homes in bankruptcy over the next two years.

Protect your right to vote

wood_ballot_box_100x100.jpgThis year's exciting elections have prompted many first-time voter registrations.  That's great news and here's a guide to the identification requirements for first-time voters who registered by mail.

One in 100 Americans

barbedwire_50x50.jpgThat's roughly the number of Americans behind bars, according to a new study.  For African-American men between the ages 20 and 34, that figure is one in nine.  We can do better, and we need leadership that will make this a priority.
